Submission
Guidelines:

Submissions guidelines

We accept unpublished Short Fiction, Poetry, Essays, Book Reviews, and Interviews. (Please for Book Reviews see House Style and Calendar: we have a regimented approach and follow specific guidelines.) We pay for Interviews only: we do not pay for any other submissions.

For us it is not what, but how said. We scour for surprises and the highly imaginative in style and technique. But it is also important that your story is of a high standard, well written and highly engaging. We are very strict in assessing submissions ... so see this: Dealing with Rejection

We particularly ask that your submission is of good taste. We have a distaste for writings that are sexually graphic. We think that the beautiful and the enduring are works with creative colourings. Also, we abhor racist and anti-Semitic writings. Our position is that everyone, irrespective of race and colour, is equal before God.

Please note: We accept interview contributions from freelance writers from anywhere in the world and you will be paid for it. But the person you interview must be a well known writer and an important voice in world literature. We also advise that, depending on circumstance, you may contact the Editor before conducting any interview on our behalf.

All submissions must be by email, as an attachment (Microsoft Word only). We do not accept submissions by post. Please send accordingly:

Short stories:  fiction@dublinquarterly.ie
Poems:  poetry@dublinquarterly.ie
Essays/interviews: essays@dublinquarterly.ie
Book Reviews:  bookreviews@dublinquarterly.ie

We do not accept simultaneous submissions. All submissions must be in English (we are strongly biased towards the standard form of British spellings), and accompanied by a brief biography written in the third person. We accept only one submission at a time: one short fiction (or essay) of about 3,000 words; or one Book Review of not more than 1,000 words; or five poems only. Please note that we will not consider submissions that do not follow the submission guidelines.

Usually, it takes 3 months for us to let you know if your submission has got what we are looking for (poetry submission will take a longer time due to backlog). Sorry, we do not return submissions--we delete them! So we advise you to save a copy of whatever you are submitting to us.

After you have submitted your work, we encourage you to also join the Dublin Quarterly mailing list for its monthly newsletter and new edition notification.
